John 10

We are reading through the Gospel of John over 21 days at River Church. We are calling this 21 Days with John. I am posting a quick thought every day from my reading.

In John 10 Jesus reveals himself by another "I am" statement. He says in John 10:14 "I am the good shepherd". One of the benefits of having Jesus as our shepherd is that he leads us. To follow him we need to recognize his voice. Jesus said in John 10:3 "the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out".

Also in John 10:27 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me". The primary way God speaks to us is through the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17). As we spend time in the Bible we learn to recognise his voice and not to follow negative influences. As Jesus said in John 10:5 "But they will never follow a stranger, in fact they will run away from him because they do not recognize a strangers voice".

My prayer for today is "Thank you Jesus that you are my shepherd. Thank you that you lead me. Please help me to hear your voice so I can follow you. Please help me discern between your voice and the voice of a stranger."
