John 11
In John 11 we see Jesus perform a miracle and reveal himself through another "I am" statement. Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead and says in John 11:25-26 "I am the resurrection and the life". I saw two life lessons from this event I would like to share with you today.
We see in John 11:6 that when Jesus heard Lazarus was sick he delayed his departure for two days. By the time he arrived Lazarus had been dead for four days (John 11:39). Both Martha and Mary thought he should have come earlier (John 11:21, 32). The life lesson is Gods timing does not always fit into our schedule. Jesus is never late but he just misses lots of opportunities to be early. Let's trust God's timing (Psalm 31:14-15).
The second life lesson is that no matter how dire the circumstances keep your faith in Jesus. In John 11:39 we see that Lazarus had been dead for four days and had started to decay. But Jesus said in John 11:40 "if you believe you will see the glory of God". Jesus was asking Mary and Martha to take their eyes off of the circumstances and to look to him. He is asking us to do the same thing today!
My prayer for today is "Thank you Jesus that nothing is impossible with you. Please help me to trust your timing in my life. Please help me stay in faith even in difficult circumstances."
