John 7
In John 7 we see Jesus extend an invitation and give a promise. I saw three things in John 7:37-39 that I would like to share with you today.
In John 7:37 we see Jesus invite "anyone who is thirsty". Are you thirsty for more of God? Jesus continues "let him come to me and drink". The invitation is open to anyone to come and drink. This speaks to me of an ongoing relationship with Jesus. Like Isaiah 55:1-3, 6-7 says let us respond to that invitation today.
In John 7:38, Jesus talks about how a believer can be filled with the Holy Spirit and be a blessing to those around them. Listen again to the promise "Whoever believes in me, streams of living water will flow from within him". God wants to fill us with the Holy Spirit and to use us to minister to others.
John 7:39 tells us that at that time this was a future promise. For us today this promise is available because Jesus has been glorified and the Holy Spirit has been poured out. According to Acts 2:38-39 this invitation and promise are still available for us today.
My prayer for today is "Thank you Jesus for the invitation to have an ongoing relationship with you. Thank you for the Holy Spirit who leads us and enables us to minister to others. Help me to be led by your Holy Spirit today."
