John 8
We are reading through the Gospel of John over 21 days at River Church. We are calling this 21 Days with John. I will be posting a quick thought every day from my reading. Today I saw two things in John 8.
Jesus tells us in John 8:31 that if we are his disciples we will hold to his teachings. A disciple is a follower of Jesus. We can be followers of Jesus today by putting his Word into practice in our lives. John 8:32 tells us that the truth of God's Word will set us free. The truth he is talking about is God's Word (John 17:17).
The more we read, listen to and put into practice the teachings of Jesus the more freedom we will experience in our lives. Like Jesus says in John 8:36 "If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed". The way we can be disciples of Jesus today is to hold to his teachings. The more we do the more we will experience freedom in our lives. The teaching of Bible does not restrict us, but rather brings us into freedom and liberty.
My prayer for today is "Thank you for the Bible that is your teaching and truth. Thank you for the freedom I have experienced in my life by holding to your teaching. May your teachings bring freedom in peoples lives at River Church as we read through the Gospel of John."
